Craft & Materials
Crafted with hand-finished detail, one panel at a time.
Every embroidered motif begins as an original illustration from a UinTales story. The artwork is carefully translated into a detailed stitch design and precisely embroidered onto cotton, velvet or fine merino before the garment is constructed.
Each panel is individually positioned, embroidered and inspected, allowing the artwork to become part of the garment rather than simply applied to it. Skilled makers then assemble and finish every piece by hand, refining seams, trims and details to achieve a considered, premium finish.
01
The story comes first
Nothing is designed for the rail. A garment begins with an illustration from a UinTales tale — a guiding star, a firefly, a moth at the window — chosen because a child already knows it.
02
Drawn as a stitch plan
The illustration is redrawn by hand as an embroidery plan: thread colours, stitch types, placement on the pattern piece. Madhubani line work informs much of the Night Garden volume.
03
Embroidered before making up
Panels are embroidered flat, by hand, before the garment is sewn. It is slower and it is the only way to get the motif to sit exactly where it should on a small body.
04
Made up in small batches
Short runs, hand-finished seams, real buttons, and linings printed with the story. Every piece is checked individually before it is boxed.
The Materials
- Cotton
- Brushed-back jersey, poplin and corduroy — breathable, washable, made to be worn every day.
- Velvet
- Cotton-blend stretch velvet for party pieces, chosen for depth of colour and softness against skin.
- Merino
- Fine-gauge wool for cardigans and jumpers, light enough for indoors and warm enough for the walk home.
- Thread
- Colour-fast embroidery threads tested through repeated washing, so the story doesn't fade before the child outgrows it.
Hand embroidered
Every motif across all 27 looks is embroidered into the cloth — no transfers, no screen prints.
Natural fibres only
Cotton, cotton-velvet and merino. No polyester shells, no synthetic pile.
Small batch
Short runs, with each finished piece inspected individually before it is packed.
